CONFRONT ERNIE EVES
TONIGHT
September 15, 2003 6pm CityPulse News Studio - Corner of Queen and John
After tip-toeing around the perimeter of Ontario's biggest
city during his first two weeks of campaigning, Ernie Eves has finally decided
to make an appearance in Toronto. At 6pm, Eves is set to give a live interview
on CityPulse, from the CityTV news studio at the corner of Queen and John St.
On this corner and along Queen St., homeless and street kids
panhandle everyday. This is one of places where the Tories' "Safe Streets Act"
has been felt most strongly, with the constant ticketing of squeegee kids and
harassment of the poor that has been enforced since its legislation. In his
campaign platform, Eves has promised with shadowy language that corners like
Queen and John will be "cleansed" if his party is re-elected. We'll say it once
again: This Government Must Be Defeated.
OCAP is calling on all allies to join us tonight in confronting
Eves on a turf he has no business stepping foot on. Be outside CityTV at 6pm.
Help us in making sure that when Eves sweats tonight, it won't be from the
studio lights.

PANHANDLING FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION
FROM TOILET PAPER TO TEXTBOOKS,THE TORIES ARE BANKRUPTING OUR STUDENTS FUTURE
Over the past 8 years, the provincial government of Mike Harris
/Ernie Eves systematically stripped the resourses from our public education
system. From Juniour Kindergarten to Colleges and Universities , the Tories
have hurt our students' ability to learn in the classroom. The Tories have not
done anything positive for our students in the past. If the Tories get back into
government, we can expect even worse for our students.

and the head office of the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal are.
Come out, bring your friends, neighbours and co-workers and join us at this
fun and creative rally where a "Judge of the People's Court" will evict Ernie
Eves for willfully trampling on tenant rights. Help us get out our messages
and demand an end to unfair evictions, truly affordable housing, a $10 minimum
wage and increases to social assistance.
NOTE: TTC will be available for low-income tenants and homeless people
attending the event. Look for Cliff Martin (wearing the neon yellow armband).
Or if you think you can fill a bus, we will cover the costs. To arrange,
please contact Dana Milne at 416-599-6195.

Poverty must be an election
issue: coalition says – Sept.9.2003
The Ontario Needs a Raise Coalition is a broad group including legal
clinics, anti-poverty, labour, community, low-wage workers, students, and
women's groups.
Concerned that nearly 2 million people in Ontario are living below the poverty
line, the coalition came together to demand that the minimum wage and social
assistance rates be raised.
At a media conference on Sept 10th, the coalition will be releasing a statement
endorsed by more than 50 prominent economists. The statement includes a call for
the minimum wage to be raised and the shelter portion of
social assistance to be raised to reflect the real cost of shelter.
Additionally, in communities across Ontario activists will be holding various
events to pressure political candidates to commit to increasing the minimum wage
and social assistance rates. Participating communities include: Toronto, Cobourg,
Peterborough, London, Sault Ste. Marie, North
Bay, Windsor, Kitchener, Hamilton,
Owen Sound, Mississauga,
Kingston, Kenora, Oshawa, Red Lake and
Halton/Burlington.
Press Conference:
