Dear Friends and Supporters, My name is Jeff Brown. As your councillor candidate for Ward 19 Trinity-Spadina, I take the issues of our community to heart. Our current councillor has been in office for over two decades. It's time for a change. In fact, when elected I will introduce a motion in council limiting office to two terms. Our community and city deserve accountable, honest representatives that serve the people, not their careers, their friends, and their financial contributors. Whether it's clean streets, safe neighbourhoods, clean air, or accountable and responsive government, I commit to serving your needs with energy and integrity. As a former journalist and community newspaper owner, a teacher, a parent and a community volunteer, I understand our Ward's needs and concerns. It's time for someone who's not a career politician to carry our voice to City Hall. It's time for a change. Your neighbour, Jeff Brown www.electjeffbrown.org Ward 19, Trinity - Spadina. HUMANIZE TORONTO CAMPAIGN CALLS FOR
POWER TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Six Candidates for Councillor Running Under Common Platform Toronto, ON October 21, 2003 A grassroots election campaign with a platform of Human Rights, Environment and Real Democracy is aiming to "Humanize Toronto". The candidates of Humanize Toronto believe that together Toronto can solve its problems. Our city is an incredibly wealthy city, drawing human knowledge and experience from every culture and corner of the planet. The expertise and imaginative power to create a truly humanized city exists right here, right now. However, in order to reap the collective knowledge of the people of Toronto, power must be put in the hands of the neighbourhood. We need a decentralized city where all our voices can be heard and where we can have a real say in how our city and neighbourhoods are run. ³We think that all city council decisions should involve neighbourhood input and be made according to whether they advance Human Rights, the Environment and Real Democracy. That should be the framework through which Toronto operates,² says Davenport candidate Cynamin Maxwell. Humanize Toronto is a totally volunteer grassroots group that ran a highly visible "Smog Day Free TTC" campaign this past summer. They have also run Real Budget campaigns for three years in a row, organizing public input into the City Budget, and have built their 2003 platform largely on the results on that campaign. The candidates this year include two students, a documentary director and a kindergarten teacher. The following candidates are running under the Humanize Toronto banner: Cynamin Maxwell Davenport Ward 18 Philip Vettese Trinity-Spadina Ward 19 Roberto Verdecchia Trinity-Spadina Ward 20 Gregory Moskos St. Paul¹s Ward 21 Nick Radia Broadview-Greenwood Ward 29 Colleen Mills Beaches-East York Ward 32 Humanize Toronto is organized by members of the Humanist Movement. Other all-volunteer grassroots projects to initiate change on a neighbourhood level include the Annex Echo community newspaper and the rNet, an alternative economic exchange network. Members of the Movement have run in past federal, provincial and municipal elections. Eight Open Council Races Could Reshape City Hall – June.7.2003 - Gloria Luby in Ward

Greg Bonser has been
arrested and pepper sprayed in protests over smog, nuclear power and other
issues. He has more courage than most of us do, but does he have the guts to
walk into City Hall and face the corruption that rules that venue? Article by
