    Analysis  2014

    - The Toronto media and elite did not like the antics of former mayor Rob Ford and wanted a politically correct mayor and therefore supported John Tory. (Rob was replaced by his brother Doug in the mayoral race due to a cancer diagnoses.)

In actual fact John Tory represents no real change from Rob Ford. John Tory's transition team is led by right wing extremist Case Ootes, who also led the Ford transition team, and Tory is former leader of the same Progressive Conservative Party the Fords are from. John Tory was the media's boy, nearly every high income neighbourhood and voter chose Tory while poorer areas voted for Doug Ford or Olivia Chow.

In John Tory the media and the city elite have the best of both worlds, as they now have their politically correct mayor, yet the Conservative control of the mayor's chair is retained and even more so with a candidate who is the solid choice of the wealthy elite.
