* Tenants in Toronto decided to Elect David
Miller as Mayor, voting 2 to 1 in his favour. So that means John Tory was
beaten back from that city hall door but still got in through a lot of council
doors … and what about tenants … I still see a lot of evictions … no one has a
guarantee they won’t be economically evicted and out on the street.
Let’s hope Mayor Miller pays tenants the dues
he owes them.
David
Miller claimed victory in the city's inner core … the former Toronto, East York
and York. The suburbs went for John Tory.
Voter turnout was 40 per cent. In key downtown wards turnout reached into the
mid-40s, while in wards in the outer suburbs, turnout was in the mid-30s. Miller
won in 22 wards — including all of the downtown wards, two in North York and
three in Scarborough — while Tory came out on top in 21 wards, sweeping all but
one ward in Etobicoke, much of North York and parts of Scarborough. Turnout was
highest in Ward 16, Eglinton-Lawrence, at 54 per cent, followed by Ward 13,
Parkdale-High Park at 52 per cent. In Ward 13, which Miller is vacating, he won
massively, defeating by 7,738 votes. In Ward 14, which Miller jointly
represented with departing Councillor Chris Korwin-Kuczynski from 1997 to 2000,
Miller also has a huge win margin of by 7,911 votes.
